I have a 76 Chrysler 45 HP that I think gets hot. It started and ran good at half throttle for about 5 minutes then started smoking white smoke and stalled. after about 4 hrs restarted and idled, was pumping water. Tried running again with same results.I saw a small stream of water spraying out near head bolts. Need help on what is causing problem and how to tell if head and block are ok. Thanks in advance sm

Near the head bolts is not good enough ..exactly where? you could have corrosion ..if its in the exhaust chamber maybe some epoxy putty....photo with biro pointing to hole would be good ..no need for hosting on this site go to attachment and follow the instructions,

still not ultra specific .....under the bolt heads ? out the aluminium ? we are not even sure if you know what the head is ? Cylinder head ? Block ? ~Side chamber ? Point with the biro like I said.

If its out the head ( bit with the plugs in ) then it sounds like corrosion from an internal water gallery has corroded and you need a new one...is it on a gasket line ?

Re: 1976 Chrysler gets hot

Sorry for the miss info. When I took the picture I realized the water was not coming from the head but the side chamber.I didn't see how to use a brio but looking at the picture the water was coming from behind the upper right and left 1/4 inch bolts on the side with the wiring buss. The bolts are tight and there are no visable cracks in the housing. Thanks again for your help.

Well you need to take the chamber cover off ..you will find it has a water chamber inside it then a metal plate and the exhaust chamber ...you may have corrosion in the aluminium which you may be able to repair with epoxy putty....I had two holes 1 1/2 x 1/2 in mine not visible filled with crud

Re: 1976 Chrysler gets hot

took cover off and no corrosion.can blow air through water chamber. I also removed and checked hose going to thermastat housing. Took thermastat out and checked in hot water. It opened at about 145 degrees. Put back together and ran at idle and fast idle in a tank for about 15 min.So far it dosn't leak. water pump appears to be working, I had a steady stream of water coming out, it gets hot but I assume thats normal. Head is also hot.
