Hello.
My '76 evinrude 55 hp model # 55673E has lost spark on both cyl. after sitting for the cold Wisconsin winter. Last I used it,it ran fine other than requiring a jump at the landing. I charged my battery for a few days and tried to see if it would fire this spring and nothing.

Without knowing a whole lot, I figured it unlikely that both coils would go bad at the same time. So I was guessing power pack or stator. I used a meter to measure what I was guessing to be the input of the power pack from the stator. Set on Vac I measured between the White/black and the Black/white wires on the right side of the power pack and got nothing while cranking. Is this a valid test of the output of the stator? Any other suggestions?

I had no spark and replaced the rotor and fixed the problem. I called a mechanic and he said the best advice was to check the very basics first.

Thanks for the input Sonwatcher but I do not believe there is a rotor on this engine.

While pulling apart the inline fuse holder to sneak a peak at the fuse, I also pulled apart the fuse itself. It is impossible to read the fuse ratings...Would anybody be able to tell me what size fuse this is that goes to the starter solenoid?

Re: 1976 Envirude 55hp no spark

I have a 1971 50 horse evinrude with a good ingition system (or at least it was). The dealer says that the part number for the stator on both engines is now the same, suggesting they were different originally. Does anyone know if the original stators can be swapped and if the other power pack is interchangable with a the power pack on the '76 (both have different part numbers)?

Re: 1976 Envirude 55hp no spark

update...the problem is the power pack. I hooked up the power pack from the '71 I have and I got spark. I ran the engine with the older power pack for several minutes and it ran normal. The older power pack has a different part nomber and doesn't say " Power Pack 2 " on it like the original. Think there will be any problem running engine with this power pack?
