Hello I have a 1976 bass boat with a 115 evinrude on it.MYy tilt trim stopped. The motor runs when I hit the button but no movement. It did work fine last time out. I did fill it full of fluid and manually raised and lowered several times. So now I managed to get it going up but it will not come down. The motor turn but no movement. No air in it at all. When I do hit the down button it don't sound strong like before. It purrs lightly.

up easily but not down? motor is spinning fine both directions?

one missing piece of information. if you open the manual release, does the engine fall as it should?

if no, then look for some type of mechanical binding or corrosion.
if yes, then it is the valve body (aka pump)

No corrosion and it falls normal. How can I change the valve body.

Re: 1976 evinrude tilt trim

have to identify which of three possible units you have.

is your trim motor perfectly round with a round pump recessed into the bottom?

or perhaps your motor is round with four long ridges and the pump has mounting ears with four screws that go up into the ridges.

or maybe your motor is mostly round, no ridges, but four small bumps at bottom just big enough for the screws.

you know, posting a picture would be nice.

Re: 1976 evinrude tilt trim

i did not know that had that system in 1976.

low fluid will lift partially and then go no further. Underneath that lift everything should work fine.

motor turning but no movement could be manual release but not likely since you do not mention bleed down.

could be armature not turning gears, but that would not even work intermittently and driveshafts don't mess up until after someone takes the motor off.

so, by process of elimination, i think it goes squarely back to your pump valves.

Better post a model #. Doesn't look like a '76 to me either.

Agreed, that looks like a post '78 model. Single piston in the middle.
