Hello,
Got the listed Merc for a steal on an 14ft fishing rig ... Been working on it and fixed all the usual problems like stalling while idling / carb leaks, etc.
However, I have a question on the shift linkage & the throttle/tiller arm relationship ...
I was told by the previous owner that the "neutral-only" start linkage was removed by the guy who he bought the boat from (I have no idea what that would be or look like); however, it relates possibly to my question of:
why does the shift bracket/assembly, when shifted into Forward, click over and block the tiller / throttle control from allowing me to fully open the throttle on the carb?
I can open the throttle wide open in neutral and in reverse; but not in forward.
I'm thinking that maybe when one of the the "previous owners" took off the "neutral-only" start linkage, they may not ahve reassembled the shift-plate bracket correctly ? ?
I really don't know ... I'm an engine guy, not a transmission / gear guy !!
help please ...
