Re: 1976 merc 150hp prop

Thanks all... yeah this site is great and thanks for all the info!! this is on a 16' 1976 fiberglass checkmate 2 from the info on the title.. We are just trying to put a lot of money in this motor vs. buying a new four stroke if that is the problem.. I was just looking and called someone from craigslist about a whole boat and motor for 500.00 and its the same motor.. From what I have seen after looking inside the distributor there are metal shavings from where the rotor button was hitting the cap pins to the connection on the wires.. So we may be fighting a worthless battle with this motor.. thanks for all the info again..

Sounds like a shot distributor. I wonder if the bushings are still avaliable? Try to look for a CDI motor. I have a late 79 115 and its CDI (no distributor). I think the 150's were the same but with different internals and carbs.

A 15 pich on a 16 ft CMate is awfully small, shold be more like a 19 pitch. Hope the tach was working as prop calculater with supplied info puts engine rpm over 8500rpm.

LOL, no wonder it's comming apart!!!.. I agree with the 19 and I know your prop calculator is pretty reliable too.
