Having a hard time deciding where exactly to post this question. I have a 1984 15' Bayliner with a mismatched 1977 Chrysler 65 hp outboard that I would like to put a tilt assembly on. Currently I lift it by hand and it's a bugger to pull up all the time. I was told that the older Force trim/tilt motor assemblies will work but I am not sure what "older" means when it comes to Force. Anyone know which years will work and what exactly I need to do to convert it to a hydraulic tilt assembly? Any help is appreciated.

Anything from the early 90's to the mid 70's
They made 2 different sizes for the t/t
The bigger motors/a bigger unit.
The same pump/motor on both.
You'll need to measure the transom bracket and compare it to the bigger motor.
Then look for a scrap motor with the t/t.
A long time ago I found a 40 with t/t $100
But the pump was bad,but rebuildable.
Then found a 125 $150 also the t/t needed a rebuild.
Look around.Most pontoons with Chrysler/Force had t/t

I did this exact modification on a 1984 Chrysler 60. You need the small power tilt/trim unit from a Chrysler of Force up to about 1990. It is the one with the four bolt trim cylinder. It is a bolt -on installation as the steering yoke is already set up for it. You do, however need to find and screw on a stainless "saddle" cap where the trim ram will contact the aluminum of the steering yoke.

DISCLAIMER: I have not seen a 1977 Chrysler 65 but if the steering swivel yoke does not look look the one in my photos, you may need to replace it also--that will be a bigger job. Tilt your engine all the way up and take a photo of the underside of the steering yoke. Then I will be able to tell you if it needs replacing or not.

All in all, if you find the tnt unit, the engine installation is about 1/2 hour. The problem will be finding a good tnt unit. Not many of the smaller Chrysler and Force engines did come with power tnt.

any 1972-1992 side mounted external pump will work for you. You can sort out the wiring after finding the right pump at right price. However, your engine has unique mounting shafts and hardware. You will need cylinders and rams exactly like Frank says. The 70-150HP stuff won't fit your engine without a lot of extra work (and modifications). Ebay auction used stuff while most of USA is frozen over for winter is the best time to buy.

For info Frank, the 60Hp, 55Hp and 65Hp from 1974 and up has the same steering swivel yoke as yours.
I have a 55Hp 1977 and a 65Hp 1977 and I have had two 60Hp 1974-75 that I have sold.
BTW: The early 60Hp and then 55Hp from 1977 had the smaller gearcase similar to the 35, 45, 55Hp.
The 65Hp has the same gearcase as yours.

Have never seen a P/T unit on a 55,60, 65Hp twincarb engine execpt yours. BUT I have a 1974 (I think) 45Hp Sport model (TC carb on it too) with factory equiped P/T unit.

Frank, here are a couple pics. I have the parts catalogs for both the 55 and 65 and I also have a 55 hp motor that is not mounted on anything. Both catalogs list a different swivel assembly on both motors and the 55 also came in short shaft and long shaft versions which apparently changed the swivel assembly. Mine looks the same as yours so I assume everything will work fine. DSC_1894.jpg

Yes, it appears that the TNT is a bolt-on installation on your engine. One thing I did forget to tell you is that you need to remove the tilt locking clamp. As you can see, it is held into the yoke with two long slotted screws. Some come out easy, others need to be cut out with cut-off wheel.
