Went out on the bay today and started having issues when I put into gear and giving engine throttle. Took Cowl off and noticed that when I advance the throttle the advance is not advancing, I could move it by hand accelerate the boat and ran very smooth, until I throttled down and put into nuetral, then idle would shoot up because the advance was then stuck at wide open, would move it down again by hand and start all over.

Got the boat home and took assy apart, spring is fine and moving well, when try and move advance by hand is not smooth and easy, feels tight, this is what is causing the problem, but was is causing the tightness and how do I fix. Is it gummed up, what do I need to do?

Thanks for any info.

Gummed up old grease, aggrivated by cold weather. You will have to take it (timer base) apart and clean it and re-lube.

I wish I knew. I have only had this boat for about 6 months. The previous owner was not the best mechanic, I have been putting things back to the wa they are suposed to be on lots of things. The boat never seemed to advance properly, always seemed to be some hesitation. just now did I notive the problem.
