I wasn't impressed by the flow on the muffs ...so I put it in a tub and it still stayed the same ...look normal?

Stream looks decent, but not overly impressive.

How old is the impeller? Any chance you have a minor blockage somewhere in the plumbing?

This is my stream....and the water pressure on my garden hose is notoriously crappy.

Hard to believe but in 60+ years boating I've never run a motor on muffs so don't even know what to expect.
It does seem that Haysc has water coming out everywhere compared to the Bonairll. Is it just the supply or a leak
in the water tube to the power head?Would be interesting to see how it does in a barrel or on the water.

i also added one to my 50 and i have a video on my phone but i cant send it. my phone says file too big. anyway, mine has a new impeller and will shoot a really strong stream

OP mentioned in his first post that he ran in a barrel and no change in stream


If impeller is somewhat new, I'd pull the LU and t-stat and flush the plumbing to see if there's an obstruction.

Thanks guys .. I believe I had the impeller change w the water pump ..it probably has less than 5 hrs on it. I ran it on muffs at idle and never got hot enough where I couldn't put my hand on it ..it was warm but I could have left my hand on it all day

Sounds like everything is ok then. Make note of stream strength once you run it on the water.

Didn't mean for this to turn into a peeing contest(pun intended).

LOL .. theris still a bunch of water coming out of the exhaust ... I just expected more water coming out of the top .. my hose size could have an affect on the stream to (LOL)

What diameter hose are you using for the telltale?

1/4 id. (Well a 1/4 drill bit fits snug in the tube) that's right in the middle of the sizes the write up said.

Did you raise the throttle a bit(on the muffs) to see if the stream improves?

Maybe its screwed in a turn or two to much ..not much room between the water jacket and the cylinder

Turn the fitting out a couple turns and see if the stream changes. I recently fitted a telltale on my '67 Johnson and only screwed the fitting in about halfway for the very same reason....I was worried that the elbow would bottom out flush with the inside of the water jacket.

If you get any leaks around the fitting after turning it out, use some teflon tape or dope etc. I used teflon tape and it worked fine for me.

Make sure to report back, so we know the outcome.

Backed the fitting out seems like the stream is somewhat better ....

The stream def looks better.

You still get a ton of water coming out of the lower leg. I have no idea if that indicates there's a minor obstruction, or maybe your garden hose puts out way more water than your motor can handle.
