I have tried to figure out how to disconnect the shift rod before unscrewing all the bolts and trying to pull the lower unit off. Everything is off the power head ready to to pull that for rebuild. Can't see a thing on how to disconnect the hook up to the bell crank. No way to get in there anyway. Need help badly.
Thanks in advance.
Jim.

Need a 5/8" combination wrench.------Find the bolt with the 5/8" head on it beside the lower carburetor.----It holds those 2 arms together.----Loosen that bolt so you can spread them and release the pin from top of the shift rod.

Thanks Racerone, will do that later when the sun has gone around. It is my guess that this is going to be a real camel to put back together. Can't see a thing down there even with the carbs and starter motor removed. The bolt is no problem. My eyes are getting old now and that doesn't help.
Thanks again.

Wait in 77 it was the change over year.-------It may be just a slotted screw with a 3/8" hex head.----Behind the lower carburetor..---Takes just minutes to remove that pin.----For 77 it is still shown with the 2 arms.--The starter is not in the way.--------So look on the side opposite the starter.------The 5/8" hex head bolt should be in plain view..
