27 year old boat, given to me, so far only have the cost of title and registration, new battery, 10$ carb repair invested in it. I don't want to sink alot of money into repairing broken gears etc. in upper/lower unit, anyone give me some ideas cheapest way to get this fixed. I have some broken teeth in upper unit. I see the cost of rebuilt units are astronomical. And please don't anyone say I should just go and buy a new boat, if I had the money for it I would, plus the wife would nag for 10 years. so anyone out there help me? How do I go about finding some good parts real cheap?

You'll find uppers are cheaper than lowers, so if you have problems in the top then yes, Ebay is the place...

dude<br /> at the risk of sounding nasty if the budget is that tight at this point you may part it out and buy something smaller. boating is expensive at best and frustrating when you spend a bunch on the upper then the lower fails then you find water in the block then the timing cover leaks then the gas tank has a hole and the list can go on and on. the upper is not readily repairable by the average do it yourselfer at home. good luck and keep posting and we will try to help but head my advice and you will be richer and happier.
