Re: 1977 Starcraft Supersport

I made some backing plates for the stern towing eyes. They are 3/8" thick and 4" x 4".

Out of what? Looks white, Starboard?

Left over 3/8" thick flat hull sections from a glasser?

Great tip @ copper in the anti-seize GA. I knew that, but probably wouldn't have remembered & caught it unless the anti-seize LOOKED copper based :cold::blue:

Thats some 3/8 thick aluminum.

I would use the gray anti sieze. No copper based here. One of the reasons Im painting the transom skin before installing any hardware is the paint will help provide a barrier between the stainless and aluminum.

Looking good Drew, I did the same for the transom eyes, used some 1/4x3" squares of aluminum as backers.

I got the keyhole cut out. It's far from perfect but it should work just fine. Now I need to start stripping all the carpet glue from the insides then I can put down the gluvit and paint the inner transom skin and I can get the transom permanantly attatched. That is after a few coats of epoxy.

Today I was cutting the reliefs for the steering arm in the keyhole. The holesaw walked on me and made the hole way off to the side. I am just going to start over on the transom. Sometimes I get in to big of a hurry and thats when mistakes happen. From now on slow and steady will be my pace for this project.

That sucks Drew, costly time and consuming. Sometimes it makes a guy think he should stick with hand tools.

It would take a long time to cut that out with hand tools. Its a lesson learned and Ill get it right next time.

Not doing any work on the boat this weekend. We are enjoying a weekend out on the lake. This has me thinking I could use a dedicated fishing rig. I might start working on the star trek since it should be a quicker restore.

Just got back from a weekend on the lake. It was windy the first couple days but last night it died down and the water was like glass. Only caught a few fish but it was just nice being out.

Stinks about the transom piece... :puke:

but sometimes a little time away at the lake puts things in perspective :) Great looking spot... nice to see water... we were up at the cottage last weekend and there was still a good 2 feet in the forest and the lake was frozen!

The ole saying... how does one eat an elephant... one bite at a time!

Keep on rockin' man!!

Sucks about the transom! Maybe it can be recycled on a smaller boat (the keyhole would be in the cut-out)..give you an excuse to park a Nova or Jet next to the Star Trek

It looks like a great place to clear the head! I'm refraining from getting out my fishing gear...once i wet a line, my productivity will plummet

This weekend im going to go look at a donor as I want the trailer for the SS. Its a nice tandem axle. Its a little overkill but I eventually plan on taking some long trips with it once I get it finished. The SS's trailer would then go to the star trek and the star treks would get sold.

The donor has enough good parts on it I could easily double my money.

Forgot the pic of the donor. He says its 17' but it looks a little bigger than that.

Good find on the donor Drew, you won't regret the tandem.

It looks reallt nice in the pics.

He says it has a v6 in it. Omc had a 3.8 and 4.3 back in the day. If it has the 4.3 I might try to stuff it in the SS.

Nice find there Drew... good to have options and a trailer that is over built vs marginal or worse. If the motor isn't what you want... as you said, you'll pay for the whole rig by selling the bits off. Exactly what I did for one of my "trailer" finds!

Awe, that's a pretty little glasser. Shame to cut her up. Big 'ol OMC hole int he back isn't gonna help her cause though.

Looks like a great donor, even better if the trailer's a good fit for the SS..........
