(Motor: Year 1977 , Make Merc, model 1850527) (Control box: Year 2007ish Mercury side mount)
I have been reading posts and looking at wiring diagrams from the 1977 85hp merc and the new merc control box. Looks like it should work however the old motor does not have the 4 gauge 12v lead running directly to the starter solenoid as in examples on much newer motors, it seems to source the power through the harness. (I don't have the old control box so I can't compare the continuities when the key is in the on position.) I read a post that suggested the key switch on the newer control boxes won't work on the old motors. The merc control box I am attempting to us is only 5 years old. What is the simplest way to make this work? I have tried to answer this question by reading other posts however they all seem to be slightly different circumstances.
