My brother and I are looking for a little insight on his newly acquired '78 Rude 115. He replace the water pump this week, and we had a chance to run it this evening. Everything appears to be well, the motor runs smooth and has great water pressure out of the telltale. However there is a lot of water literally pouring out of the upper exhaust ports. Now I've had a few of these motors in the past and I've never seen anything like this before. All of them with the exception of this one have misted from these ports. I've attached a link to a video, if there's anyone that can lend any input I'd greatly appreciate it.

I think this is perfectly normal for this motor....mine did the same thing. It sounds good too.

I was thinking the same thing but wasn't sure. I've never seen one of these motors just dump water out of the ports before.

First guess is the thermostat is stuck open or missing. Second guess is somebody removed the pressure relief valve next to the thermostat. Third guess is too much water pressure on the muffs, holding the pressure relief valve open. I'd try it on the lake before getting too far into it.

F_R, I appreciate the input! When we started the motor for the first time there was a period of about 30 seconds before water started coming out of the ports. This leads me to believe that the thermostat maybe in working order. We'll hold off on things until we have a chance to get it on the lake. Thanks again.
