I have a 78' 70hp Evinrude, I'm the 3rd owner of the engine, looks like it was taken well care of for it's age. I'll start her up, get to where I'm going, which is usually 15-20 minutes away. I'll shut it down for a while, fish, etc. When i try to start it, all it does is crank and crank. I smell fuel, I've checked the spark at each of the cylinders on land, all looks good. I recenlty had the head milled, new gasket, plugs, and battery. Still experiencing the same problem. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try that as soon as the weather breaks and report back. Thanks again...

Sounds typical of an electronic ignition component failure.

You may find that by running it on a hose and applying heat from a hair drier to the various parts it might just die.

Or try the recomended test procedures. If worse comes to worse it will require the tests to be made during the time it won't start.

test procedures
