Starboard Cabin Window Rebuild

This would be my first window rebuild ever. I think it came out pretty good. I replaced the glass, with plexiglass, so, a little bit of a downgrade, but I had to if I want the side windows to match the front cabin window that has to be rebuilt.

The old butyl tape comes right off with the heat gun. You can see the information for the glazing that I used in the pictures.

I'm just dry fitting them for now. I will do the permanent install after I have it painted.

Rebuilding the cuddy bench. They're not done, but you can see what it's going to be. I still have to revisit it and add a support structure. It looks like I'll also be able to add a significant amount of floatation foam too!

I decided pretty early on that this was going to be a fishing boat and that the cuddy was going to be a storage cuddy for fishing gear stowage and privacy to use the port-a-potty.

So, with that in mind I was trying to think of different ways to stow some of the things I will need for the operation of the boat and to fish and I came up with the recessed bucket idea. I got the buckets online from a farm store. They're very thick rubber and their intended purpose is to put feed in for horses. They sit down in the cavity, so they are locked in place. On one side I'll definitely have my anchor & anchor line and on the other, I'm thinking downrigger balls. I purposely chose these buckets because of the handles. The handles will make it easy to grab the anchor when I need it.

Anyway, it's still a work in progress. Still have to go back with some support and floatation foam.

Very nice, wish I had one big enough that I could do a potty as well. Do you have enough room if you have to sit? Looks like you are right under that front beam.

There's room to sit. Your head ends up right in front of the wood beam. I'll end up putting some sort of padding on the wood though.

One of the design flaws with this boat, the reason the front cabin window was probably cracked in the first place, is the lack of support for the ceiling above the window. So, I decided to address that before I install the new window.

Doghouse Build

With the winter coming I wanted to get the doghouse built to have an added layer of protection for the engine during the winter months. In the past I had it shrink-wrapped because there was no protection for the engine. This year I went with my store-bought cover, the doghouse and a tarp as an added layer.

I had enough leftover Coosa to do the whole thing in Coosa. The framing is kind of a hodgepodge. I used aluminum framing for two vertical members and the ones that are in direct contact with the deck. I used up some walnut 2x2's I had on the rear uprights, and the rest is untreated pine. The ventilation vents serve as the exits for my natural ventilation.

This is just the base structure. I plan to add storage to the top of it, maybe rod holders across the front. I was thinking about possibly keeping the portable fuel tank for the kicker motor on it. Any thoughts on that, anybody?

I used rivets and 316 SS Screws. I don't think I'd use the 316 screws again though. I'd try 304. The 316 are just too easy to strip out.
