Hi, well I just picked up a mid 80s mercury xr2 150, my boat already has a 1978 merc v6 150. My question, is it worth swapping them and putting the xr2 on my 16.5' checkmate for power :D? I know that the xr2 is still a 2.0L, but how much more power does it make over 78 150, and will it be noticed?
Thanks Jared.

Tha XR2 is prop rated, so it's probably about a 175 by the old standards. If it's still stock, it has a smaller LU which has less drag in the water. They were sold as performance bass bote motors.

hope it helps

If tha '78 is healthy ya won't notice much difference. In fact if it is healthy, it might run a tad bit better. Tha older 1st generation blocks were under rated I think. Run it till it drops then put tha XR2 on it.......JMO

John, XR2 has a big gearcase. XR4 and early XR6 had small...........
