I am working on this engine. I have no experience with Johnsons. When i squeeze the primer bulb I can hear this slight sound of air escaping from this contraption that is the first thing the fuel hits after the QD. It is shaped like a pyramid on the top and rectangular below that. It has 6 screws holding it in. It looks like a gasket around it. There is a circular part in the middles that has a knurled screw holding it on. The gas line coming out looks like it is headed toward the carbuerator. It kind of looks like a filter of some type. I don't see any wires or anything that makes it seem like a fuel pump. I may be missing something. I need a little advice here to get started.

Good beginning. Thanks. Should I hear the sound of air escaping when I squeeze the primer bulb?

If fuel is moving through it you may hear something. Air will be moving through it prior to the fuel, the fuel should stop moving and the bulb will become hard if everything is correct in the carbs.
