Just make sure if you use the WOG Resin that you wear a mask. Those eggs can REALLY throw off some nasty fumes, doncha know. Especially in a Tyvek Suit!!!!!!

Okay.... Got my rear kicked at work this week, so-Ima' slacker.......... But wait! It's Saturday....... I've been up since 6 AM drinking coffee.... I'm jazzed and stoked! Glass will be laid today! I'll post pics of my poor glassing skills ASAP! :D

Re: 1979 Imperial

It has begun................

So I needed to make a WOG vac special for the small grinding areas... works awesome dude! Why leave the bag filter off inside the vac again????

Imperial%252021JAN2012%2520074.jpg

Then I sanded down the transom before coating wood with secret resin mixture....

Imperial%252021JAN2012%2520075.jpg

Then I made my first 500 mL batch O' sauce at 1.25% MEKP for a slow kick and covered the transom, and it's edges... Well I made a tad too much..!

Here is the transom soakin it up....

Imperial%252021JAN2012%2520079.jpg

In anticipation of making too much sauce, I had the area of the stern where I ground the hole, prepped for such an opportunity~!

Imperial%252021JAN2012%2520076.jpg

So I made my first batch of hairy PB and started the repair! This is good times! I dig working with PB!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fillet's!!!!!!!!!!!

After she kicks I'll flip and coat the back of the transom. The do a wet layup of 1.5 CSM, and a layer of 1708 over the fillet repair... Hopefully next I'll add at least two layers of CSM to one side of the transom...

Re: 1979 Imperial

The 1st layer of the transom CSM is going on just as the resin starts to get tacky, right?

Wet on wet even for the 'penetrating' layer of resin, I'm fairly sure.

The PB fillet looks great! Good idea for spare project needing some resin, too!

Re: 1979 Imperial

The cloth filter gets clogged VERY quickly with the fine dust and chokes down the suction. This will stop that from happening but... It will be a freakin dusty mess when you open the box.

Hey gang,

Round one = success!

I've covered one side of the transom with 2 layers of 1.5 oz CSM... 1.25% MEKP was perfect! I used 2000 mL of resin to wet out both lay-ups. I did this on-top of the tacky initial wet out...

Used my transom template to cut CSM, and extended outside the edges by ~ 2" the entire perimeter of the template.

This pic shows how I tore/frayed the CSM edges to aid in CSM going over plywood edges. Works killer!

Wetting out CSM.... I never even used my fiberglass roller, and have only a very small amount of bubbles...

Two layers of 1.5 oz CSM on one side of my transom.... And to top off this success my house smells so wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doncha just love the smell of Poly Resin. Just like Mom's Home Made Biscuits!!!! NOT!!!!! I must say, for a first timer, you've done a great job on the transom. You've done you're homework, paid attention to details, documented your work, applied what you've learned and done it RIGHT! This will be referred to for future transom builds, I guarantee it!!!!

Looks good Bear! Tearing the corners does make bending around the corners much easier. It's hard at least for me to keep all the bubble's out!

Hey Mike! Man that means a lot coming form you brutha! Thanks for all the schoolin'....

Thanks brutha! I was expecting a nightmare going over corners with CSM, but this really works well! Not sure if it's possible to keep all the bubbles out... I'm just trying to get the best bond possible...

How are you going to bond the transom to the transom outer skin?

I'll be using hairy peanut butter or HPB for this... ( poly resin, 1/4" csm and cabosil )

Can you do me a huge favor when you do this can you please take pics . This is the step im kinda pondering to my self.

Im going to wrap my new transom just like you are doing but i was wondering how i was going to stick it to the outer skin .

Thanks Rob.
