been working on this dam boat for 2 1/2 years now paid good money too a boat repair place in woodburn oregon to fix all this! new stingers, transom, and floor seven years ago! went to go fishing 3 years ago to find that the ez-load trailer rusted through so i built a new one out of 3/16 2x4 steel tubing all sealed tight went from rollers too 2x6 deck boards with carpet on them:D thought i was ready to go and jumped into the boat and crunch dam floor gave out! at this point i should have put this boat on the burn pile and burned it! and went out and bought a new one but the price of a good deep V hull it to spendy for me:( so hence ( in to deep!) was sold when i took it in to get all this fixed was new stringer, transom, and floor all fiberglassed in nope nada i got screwed and the place is now out of business!

the setup new transom 3 layers of marine plywood and 4 layers of fiberglass a layer between each sheet of plywood got the floor of the boat sanded and i am going to re coat it with a new layer of fiberglass this to might be an over kill but i might as well do it right because it will make me feel better when i am out on the water in this boat ( i hate that nagging feeling maybe i should have done that!!! )

i have gotten allot of info from this forum and thank you all for all of your post and things that you all have gone through and the fixes and all that! it has been a very big help on this resto of mine

i drive truck so when i get home i only get 34 to 40 hours off each week! and then i got that dam Honey Doo list thing i have to deal with first!

one thing i have learned and nothing is said about is if anyone is going to do anything like this!! is when you go to start grinding and sanding bare as little skin as you can and get a mask a good shop vac and get it setup so you can get all of your cutting, grinding, and sanding done on one day or two don't be miserable with that itching thing for three weeks ya kind of get a bit crabby!!

what i have come up to is in the bow i am at a point i do not know how to fix this i got the floor that goes up to a point this this open bow part of the front deck it's floor sits on top of the main floor with a 1/2" gap between
and to me the only way to get to that rotten part of the main deck floor in to cut the gel-coat and fiberglass of the open bow out but if i do that how do i put that part back together?:
i got some pics here i hope you can see what i am talking about and if any one here can help with this i will appreciate

either that or the whole cap has to come off, I'd cut and re-glass it back later. MAke your cuts where you can't see , like under the cushions etc, the less cosmetics later the faster you can finish it up.

You have to be carefull with open bow boats, they're completely open to the elements, add furniture , carpets and its like taking the roof off your house for a winter.
They have to be well garaged and protected.

Re: 1979 orion 19' open bow

need some help or advice on installing the stringers in the floor?
i talked to a boat repair place and asked them what to do and they said all they do is fiberglass the stringers in place!!
i thought i seen a post that said to glue them in first?? then fiberglass them in?
i would like to get a good support on the hull i would think the least amount of gaps would be better so glueing them in first would give better support to the hull is this correct think or over kill and over worring??
if it is what type of construction adhesive is best to use?? pl375 Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive is all i can find

Re: 1979 orion 19' open bow going back together

well time sure does go by when your itching sorry having fun
had a problem in the front of the bow on the floor but figured it out!
did not want to cut all the fiberglass out so i cheated but it turned out dam good i think!!

i mixed my resin and then thinned it out by 15% to cover the boards once they had dried out ( 4 months ) i was going to mix a peanut butter mix of resin but i found a post here that said it was best to use shims and PL9000 adhesive!
i am going to cap off the front were i replaced the front nose part of the floor on the small outer part on both sides to block any water from getting into the side of the center were the foam goes back into then i am thinking of fiberglassing the foam in to ( i hate water getting into the foam smells bad when you have to replace it) but i think i will not do this again on this boat!!
not having a good pattern for my stringers i used a 2x4 and leveled for the floor then i used cardboard on both sides to get my hull cut right!! as for the motor mount wood instead of 2 2x4 screwed together i used a 4x6 and cut it to the Hull and then drilled and bolted them to the stringer using stainless steel bolts oh and fiberglassed them together to i sure hope i am getting this all water tight!!!
going to also re-glass the hull before i put new foam in so what is best for this the regular mat or that weave cloth??? was thinking of using the weave cloth to glass in the wood at the engine compartment i bit stronger i would think what do you all think??? well it back to work for anther week or two
just thought with all the help i have gotten here i would let ya all see in a year and a half how far i have gotten and yes thanks for all the help!!!
Bill
