I am brand new to boating and bought a fishing boat with a 50 Hp Evinrude. I think it has a 1980 Engine on it going by the model number. The key switch worked fine until I took off cover and noticed all the wiring was worn and bare(should of left alone but figured I could redo the wiring) And thought I could. Now the Key switch does not work. I can take and jump from the top post to the top smaller side post on the selinoid w/ screwdriver and it will start. Coincidence that Key swich went bad or do I have the wiring not right. Or could the selinoid be bad:) Thanks for the help

there is an red inline fuse holder, on small wire to pos post on solenoid, bet it is blown. it controls the ignition.

Can you tell me about the selionoid and where the wires should go from the posts to insure I didn't mix them up. I didn't take the large two wires off the battery and the starter.
