Been off the project for little bit, had to go to California (work) and Florida (family). Could be worse. Have had a few days off work to get after this floor. Have been able to get the stringers most of the way glassed in. Tough work, working lower than your feet. Has been coming out pretty good. One layer of 1.5 oz. CSM seems like a good amount of glass to go with.

Will be working on the bilge area next. Gotta get this floor in!

Got the bilge area boxed in. Pre-glassed 2 small pieces of plywood for the walls, Not easy to do these small pieces. Glued them in with PL, rock solid. Sealed around the transom, used glass beads and resin, my "peanut butter" looks live cake frosting. Used a bunch of 2" masking tape to hold the goop in place.

Tabbed in the transom between the stringer first.

The tie down loops through the transom were too close to the top so I glued on some scrap wood triangle strips.

Cut the floor pieces out and set them in for a dry run. Pretty good fit. Measured more than twice.

Pretty nice seeing a floor :D
Have to do some trimming and sealing with resin. Not sure if the back of the wood needs more than just resin.

I think the production will do better with out the suds. Trying to cut straight lines on this stuff.

Looking great. Poly resin has no strength by itself so if you're coating the undersides of the floor, I'd add at least a thin layer of glass.

Thanks, EZ. I bought some .75 oz csm, was planning to use it on the bottom. Been a bit shocked by the resin consumption on the stringers, was trying to talk myself out of the csm.
Got off work early today, weather was over 60 deg. here, finished the prep on the trailer and got the first coat of paint on it. No pictures yet, technical problem getting them off the camera. Couldn't do any resin work today, we are having family in for a visit, wife said no smelly stuff. Thats that!

A quick update, with a question.

Finally getting a chance to get some work done, on the boat. Too much job, and the holidays.

Drilled out the required holes through the new wood on the transom, using the existing holes in the skin for a guide. Came out good. Cleaned up the wood around the outdrive hole and put a layer of thin csm around the cutout.

The trouble is the bilge drain hole is 1 1/2 inch off the bottom of the hull, looks kind of high. Would it be worth it to fill this hole and drill a new one pretty close the bottom?

Got the new deck pieces glassed on the back side, used 3/4 oz csm. I set them in place for a dry fit check, a few adjustments were required. Looks like my port stringer is now too tall in the middle area, must have gotten the mat on the top wrap too thick. Another bit of rework, grr.

I'm thinking I would lower the hole, especially with and I/O, my concern would be any oil/sludge accumulating under a hot motor.

I'm not saying that you plane on using a leaky motor by any means, just a bit of forward thinking, just in case so to speak.

There is also the issue of standing water obviously. I'm just wondering if after filling the hole you would be able to get a nice round one again as it appears you may be catching part of the old hole when you re-drill.

Is that hole too high? Probably. Is it worth it to try to redo it lower? Probably not.

I am with ezmobee somethings are better left unchanged. Put the nose of that boat towards the sky and most all of the water in bilge will drain out.

Thanks for the advise. I will go with the majority and leave it. It bothers me, but soon it will be the next little thing doing that, so I will press on.

Gotta get this floor in, it's getting close.

Got the floor in!
First I had to make the great "foam under the deck decision". A good thread was started about 2 weeks ago, lots of information. Installing cut sheets was my call. Big plastic tube is glued in with a bit of PL, draining to the bilge area. The vertical pieces are glued in with PL to keep things in place.

I put the plywood down for keeps, PL and stringers and SS screws every 6 inches. The outside edges bowed up a bit, from the fiberglass on the back side, I think. Had 200 pounds of steel, from the weight bench (a bit dusty!), put them to work, holding down the edges while the glue set up.

The stick from side to side is to hold the edges of the hull in, to fit the cap. Filled in the edge gap with resin-microballoon mix. Working on glassing it all in now. Pretty nice to walk around on a real deck.;)

Interesting. Thanks for the detailed pics.

I've got a 1985 Galaxy. There are still quite a few of them in my area.

Why don't you build up something below the hole to make it level? So the water can't sit lower than the hole...

I did consider this. Could not see it working out to be worth it. I just repeated the hole placement which the factory boy's did. Also, I am very reluctant to make a fresh lower hole in the hull.

When this deck is glassed, I will have to haul this hull onto the trailer (freshened up), looking forward to the next fun adventure!!
