Just bought this motor, placed it in a drum of water, starts good cold, overheats quickly, noticed that the water more than tricles out the outlet ports & should be warm but is cold like the water in the drum. What would stop it from circulating through the motor to cool it off?
HELP

If the engine is actually overheating, I'd suspect the thermostat and water pump assy.

Thanks Joe; The water pump sends a large volume of water up the foot & out the two outlets just under the power head were ordinary it should just tricle out, somehow it's not reaching the motor to cool it off.

Standard Operating Procedure (as Joe states)

It's new to you so start with a new water pump kit.A new thermostat never hurts. Then you'll know that much is good, and we can advise about going deeper.

DHP

Check the compression. A slightly blown head gasket has been known to cause the combustion to enter the water passageways which in turn cause a stalemate..... water is obstructed and cannot go beyond a certain point.
