How long did you sit there Vrooming and air-throttling before you decided on that location for the panel?

Must not of been long enough if you still have doubts. :p

Making some good looking progress Jas, keep stepping away.

I can see what you mean about wanting to see what the controls look like on the alum panel, maybe needs to be cut down a bit more.... Does look like a cool concept though. I hope that makes sense

I didn't air vroom at all!!!!

Well, ok, maybe I did for about 5 min:p

Yah, it's not so much the location that's just fine. I'm wondering if it looks good? I think so maybe? What do you guys think?

Got a bead roller at the shop @school? or W/ a solid, smooth, round 1/2" diameter pipe, and a hydraulic press, I think you can make faux bead rolling. I think there's a video on YouTube... Might have to route a receiving pocket in a plywood backer for the stretched aluminum to fill......

I think it looks good, like it. Possibly just a bit long but that opinion could change once we see it with the controls mounted.

I do kinda think it would blend better if it was white. Course I liked the white gauges and wood wheel center. Maybe you should do some of your sweet photoshopping to see what it would look like with some color.

Do you think the panel might vibrate and buzz? Maybe some stiffening behind the panel to the gunnel. It does look good.

I personally can't think of a better looking dash and controls mount. I would be primarily worried about the rigidity. I have the same set of controls mounted on the wood side panel of my SS and that thing wobbles around like you wouldn't believe.

Hmmm, Jas... I'm not normally negative, but I really think a rethink over the mounting for your controls is necessary. I spent a good five minutes looking at the flat plate aluminium dangling there and, for what it's worth, feel you would be better served by boxing it in, a) for stability, and b) for a more solid look. Everything you've done so far is "bomber" as you put it, let's keep that rock solid feel going! Just my 0.02 worth...

JB - You are on to something there. The blank alum behind the controls leaves kind of a unfinished look to it (the port side dash too). I believe I have a plan for those spaces:)

GT, Gib - Thanks guys, things are coming together!

Yah, the length kinda hides the control box ya know.

Here ya go...

You know you may be right. It's hard to tell though, it could just be my unbelievably awesome photoshop skills:D

GA, concept - It's locked in there soild, should have any vibration. Support/structure behind that panel is a great idea, I think I have a plan...

TII, Brew - "A more solid look" Yah, that's a good way to put my concern. It's quite solid but looks kinda floppy. Hang tight, next post...

If you flipped it around and put the long side butted to the dash, it would tie in better methinks.

I like it whatever choice you make.

Yah, I hear ya. That was actually one of the ways I dryfit and something just didn't look right with that set up. I think it might have been too much alum in one spot maybe?

K, first up, my replacement Tach came so I got that installed...

I really like how that's shaping up! Bummer I cracked that 12V outlet, otherwise this dash would be done.

Then I installed the controls, check it out...

I do like it a lot more than yesterday. Like I mentioned, that blank space behind the controls needs a little something to finish it off, got something in mind there.

Now, it's actually very solid just the way it is. Here, check out the back side...

The very bottom control box is just resting on the hull. So my plan is to run a bead of removable adhesive along that edge like 3200, or silicone, or something like that. That way it's completely stuck to the hull, no movement going on and I can just run a knife through it if I need to get the controls out of there. I think that sould work out just fine eh:)
