Going to look at a 1982 100hp Mariner tomorrow and was wondering what peoples feelings are about them. Are parts still available, will mechanics work on them those sort of things, or should I just steer clear and keep looking?

Never heard of a 1982 100hp Mariner, In 82 there was 90hp, and a 115hp both inline 6s

Ok, went out and saw the Mariner this AM Jimmbo is correct it is not an 82. I wrote down the serial# , which was 0C110393. I don't know the exact year but it is an 88-93. It seemed to run okay had to use the bulb to keep it running but the fuel tank was also on empty so that could be part of the problem. They just had $800 worth of work which included some work on the fuel system last year so who knows. Anyway same questions I suppose. Thanks for any info.

A 4 cylinder. If you had to use the primer bulb to keep it running that usually means a bad/weak fuel pump. However, it could also be air leaking into the line, likely at the fuel connector on the engine.
Myself I never cared for the looper 4 cylinder 100, 115, 125 hp engines, so I never paid them much attention as I prefer their predecessor the inline 6s. I do know they are not very tolerate of over revving.

Unlike Jimmbo I am a fan of those motors. That being said those are 2+2 motors and can be extremely finicky. I would not buy one without a test drive, a warranty or find a shop familiar with those motors and take it to them to be checked out.
