1982 Johnson 50HP

We have a 24ft pontoon boat that currently has a 28hp motor on it. We would like to upgrade and have found a 1982 Johnson 50HP motor.

I am inquiring if there are any known issues that I should be looking for in an 82 Johnson.

Also, will the controls from my 1995 Johnson work on the 82?

I actually have 2 of this exact same engine. There have been no issues in the last 12years that I have had them. Good strong running smooth idling engine.

That was a really good outboard 30 years ago, Phipps. If it has had good maintenance it should still be a good engine.

Not sure about the controls, but there may be an adapter for the wiring harness.

As long as your 1995 controls have the red plug on the wiring harness they should work.
