Recently replaced the water pump assembly housing and all. Changed the gear oil and after the first trip out noticed emulsified oil on the leg. Drained the oil and it was pristine. Removed the lower unit and noted emulsified oil in the water pump area. Any ideas what is happening here ?

Normal.-----You mix oil with the gas.----The oil has to go somewhere.-----Some oil / fuel mix goes right through the motor and is wasted.----I have often said that concept of 2 strokes and lubrication is not well understood..

I understand how a 2 stroke works. But I don't recall ever seeing that much emulsified oil after taking it out of the water. Did you look at the picture ?
