I have a Merc 25, made in Canada, Ser No 7197676. I've looked up the serial number and believe it's an 82 model. After sitting for at least 4 years, I pulled on the rope for about 15 mins and it finally came to life. Runs great, but it won't shift into gear. I've searched several forums, but can't find any examples of this problem. It was my brother's motor, so I know it was working the last time it was used. Anybody got any ideas? Also, what weight gear oil should go in that lower unit?
