Hey axl, your photos aren't working, you need to copy and paste the IMG code from Photobucket to the iboats thread.
You will probably want to replace all the bellows and the gimble bearing when your doing the outdrive. You will also need an alignment bar to properly reinstall your motor, there are some nice kits for a good price on Ebay. If you check around you can buy a complete transom kit , all the bellows bearing shift cable at a better price than individually.

I checked out your pics on the PB and decided to post them up below for you, just copy and paste in the message the IMG code to the right of the picture you want.

On your transom cover, the wood supports need to come out, any riveted in angle braces. You may have to unbolt the last couple bolts on both rub rails to get the transom cover out from under it but I'm not sure on your model SC. There's an angle trim piece on the very back too, everything has to come out anyway for the transom to be removed so just start taking out anything through the transom. When you get the cover off, you'll see the outer corners of the transom is covered by the gunwales. I cut a notch out of the aluminum gunwales and used a hacksaw to get the last remaining screws that are tough to reach.

It will become obvious what needs to come out when you start taking out rivets and screws.

Have you pulled the motor yet? I think you should get a manual for your mercruiser, there are some links around here in the forum somewhere for free pdf manuals.

I think you should get a manual for your mercruiser, there are some links around here in the forum somewhere for free pdf manuals.

Here's one:
Boatinfo - boat brochures and manuals for boats and marine engines! Click the link: Library at the top

And here's another:
EBSCOhost LoginUsername: marshall
Password: public

after logon:

Select small engine repair

Select Marine/Boat motor

Scroll down & select manufacturer, for Mercruiser, a drop down list appears after you click Mercruiser

Specific for your year & motor would be better, and I would HIGHLY recommend buying a manual (iboats probably sells Mercruiser 120 manuals)

Over in the Mercruiser forum you can probably find other links to similar online PDF's, and look thru the info @the Adults Only & helpful info threads, lots of good stuff in there. A ton of it from our late mod, Don S.

Ayuh,.... Pull the motor, then the nuts on the inner plate, then the inner plate, then push the transom assembly out of the hull,...

No reason to undo that,...

NO dumb questions except the ones you don't ask..... Even if we imply that you've asked one  sorry in advance for that.....

Don't take anything said so far that way though, it just may be hard to 'get' some of us via just text is all.
