Am currently knee deep into the resurrection of this old beast, but am having issues...I did the compression check and all numbers were stellar ranging from 147-155. So I decided to pull the exhaust manifold due to the raw water tank spewing water out of the cap, well one of the bolts to the #4 cylinder broke off and am now going through the joyous task of figuring out how to remove it. I was a little freaked out because their was some corrosion on the inside of the cylinder...well I thought that it was corrosion, but am not sure because of how perfect it looked, also their was a piece towards the back of the motor under where the exhaust manifold is and I am not really sure what it is...here is a pic of the odd cylinder wall, and the copper looking piece that looks like something should be hooked up to it. Also...how should I go about getting that bolt out? One last question...on the manifold where the copper line hooks up to their was a large old next to it..I took the bolt out and it was plugged up, so I unplugged it and blew it out with the air hose...what is that bolt their for? The first pick is of the weird cylinder, the second is of the 1st, which looks more normal to me...and the last is of the piece that im trying to figure out what it is.

Those aren't the cylinders... correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure those are pictures of the exhaust ports on the head. Take a picture a little further back so we can see the surrounding and get some context.

That nipple I think is to flush the coolant. Actually I have no idea, I knew at one point and then forgot. It may just lead into the flywheel cover. I just know that it's not supposed to be hooked up to anything normally and if it's tight then it's closed so you don't have to worry about it. Mine isn't hooked up to anything either.

As for your other questions I found it difficult to identify exactly what they were. It would be helpful to make a bulleted/numbered list, or at least break up your large paragraph into distinct statements, like I did here.

If the cap was off, then it's normal for the water to come spewing out of there.

You can rent a stud extractor from most any autoparts store. Or buy one: 1/2" Drive Stud Extractor

It's only going to work if you have some of the stud left to grab onto. If it broke off flush, then you are probably going to have to drill it out and tap the hole for a slightly oversized stud.

The bolt on the bottom of the manifold is for draining water from the manifold for winterization.

I don't know why your exhaust port looks like that, maybe it had previously been repaired? It doesn't look like it should effect operation at all though.

That hose connection is funny, I haven't noticed it on mine. Is that under the exhaust on the flywheel cover? I'll look at mine tonight to see if I have one.
