I went to the lake with my boat which had been running great and cranked her up and she started just fine pushed off from the dock put it in gear gas her a little gas and she cut off. I tried to get it to run several times before I removed the top and saw the problem. The piece that is spring loaded that advances the timing when you throttle up the nut was loose and the spring was not working. I fixed it right on the boat and cranked her again and gave her some gas and it took off for about 20 feet and cut off and would not crank again. When I got home I checked the spark and I had none. My question is could the timing not advancing caused my CDI to short out and is there a way with limited tools that I can test it. And where can I get a new CDI without having to pay a arm and leg. thanks for any help you can give me in advance.
