Snagged a lobster pot line with the prop when running at full power, it slowed and stopped the engine.
After clearing the mess it would not run again
After two days sitting in yard it started with some difficulty and then ran perfect for 20 min. I shut it down and went back 30 min later and Now it will not start again
I found plugs gapped at 30,the book said 40, I cleaned and regapped, still will not start.
Also the bulb on the fuel line will not get hard when hand pumping it.
what now???

I doubt that the snag had anything to do with it, Bill.

Go to FAQ and troubleshoot for "Wont Start".

Good luck. :)

Hmmm. Hit something - lose spark. I am wondering if maybe you sheered a flywheel key. Borrow a 3-point flywheel puller and give it a look-see....
- Scott

I pulled the flywheel and the key is ok, no damage there. Some of the coils and trigger mechanism have some rust starting on them.

What shall I check now????

I did all the ohmmeter test's according to the manual and they are testing withing limits and neither the charge coil or the sensor are shorting to ground. I do not have the equipment to test the power pak.
What do i do now??????

Re: 1983 Evinrude 7.5 Yachtwin Problem

Hi Bill,
Try disconecting the kill switch in the tiller handle. There are two wires that follow through back to the motor. One is a ground, and the other goes to the rubber connector that the coils and brain box connect to. If you pull the connector apart, you should be able to gently pull the kill wire out of the boot. Spraying a little WD-40 might help. This will eliminate the kill switch as a cause...
Also, are you hearing any arcing in the motor. Spin it over and listen closely for any electrical sounds. If something is grounding out, you might hear it...
- Scott
