1983 johnson 140

well here goes i have j140tlcte in july it died when coming in to ramp put new plugs in idle better but not perfect for some reason i noticed it wasnt charging dont know how long found loose conn at positive term screw on term board fixed it then it charged,but i checked rectifier 1 yellow wire to would not read either polarity. put a radio shack full wave rectifier in and it charges fine however the tach at 1100rpm will go up to 3000 the actual enjine rpm will go to maybe 1400 it just fluctuates unhook the positive from the rect. rpms dont do that, maybe regulator thanks for your help.

If it was my mtr I'd take the radio shack stuff off of it and put it back to original. Then go to cdielectronis.com or get an OEM factory service manual to trouble shoot it.

boobie again you hit the nail right on the head that is exactly what i need to do:laugh: i noticed a compacitor across the pos and neg on the schemetic of the oem rectifier.thank you very much for your responce.
