I am looking at this boat next weekend. It has a 2005 300 Yamaha with 170 hours. What should a survey run on a boat this size and what should I be looking for as far as future costs? It is listed at 18,000 which is more that I sure will offer.

Thanks,

Brian in MI

keep in mind the boat itself is coming on 40 years old.

you will have to call around for a survey, most probably wont want to do a survey on a 40 year old boat.

Thanks for the reply Scott! Is it even worth pursuing a boat this old?

nothing wrong with an old boat, if it has been correctly maintained, washed after every use, and every niggly little issue addressed.

the main issue is that fiberglass boats are intended to last about 15-20 years of age, and then things like the motor go, the hull develops issues, and the interior needs replacing. steering and control cables, etc all fail after a while

has these issues been addressed along its life?

we cant see it, however the motor was replaced 15 years ago. what other systems have been upgraded?

The motor is undoubtedly a 2 stroke (HPDI) at that age.

That’s a first or second year model. Lots of issues upon release. Make sure all the updates where performed.

At 15 years of age expect at a minimum to replace all fuel related parts.

Unless the boat has been restored, the value is in the motor. In today’s 4 stroke market, the motor isn’t worth half the asking price.
