Re: 1983 Mercruiser 260 replace w/305??

There is a difference between the 305 and 350 exhaust manifolds. The last bolt hole to the rear on the passenger (starboard) side is is in a little different location, about 1/2" off. I had a 79' El Camino with a 305 that I switched to a 350. When I came to this problem I talked to some people about it.A guy told me that he put high temp sealer in that area and left the bolt out. That's what I did and it worked fine, never had a problem. However on a marine manifold I don't think I would try that beings you have water flowing through there. There fore you may have to get a starboard side 350 exhaust manifold.

I still have the 305 engine if anyone wants it for FREE.It's fully disassembled on a shelf in my basement, all the parts.Ran fine just used a lot of oil.If interested I live in the St.Charles/St.Louis Missouri area. Send me a PM.

Marine maniflods don't use the bolt hole you are talking about, so it wouldn't matter. It's not the last bolt hole, it's the second to last one.
