Being a first timer at a waterpump replacement. I was wondering if the bottom of the lower unit has to come all the way apart to change the water pump? I removed the 5 bolts to allow the bottom to separate but it seems to only want to come apart about a 1/4". I didnt want to force anything apart so I put it back in place, put the bolts back and came looking for help! HELP!!

you are going to have to take you shifter linkage loose for it to come down. i'm not exactly sure how yours comes apart just look in the gap that is open and you'll see. if you put it in foward gear it will come down a little more for some more working room, and reverse will bring it up (or at least all of my motors do) and then you'll see the housing around the impeller, take it off and replace and put it back together. make sure you line up the tubing when you reassemble so you get water to the motor.

Thanks a bunch Bob! I'm going on the attack again tomorrow evening after work. Should I put it in forward before I start taking the bolts loose or once I get them loose?

it depends on the motor some of mine i had to take loose in the small gap and some i could take loose up high and get a little more gap to take it off, in order to take the foot completly off.
