This is going to hurt.........................$1500.00. Yes really, and that's with 3 props, custom cover, skis, ropes, knee board, etc.

That boat is beautiful! Nice work.

All the OMC diehards are going to be very jealous of you.

It's kinda a shame in some ways, she's been kept so long she aint even lived yet.

time to get her wet

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen. Haven't got her wet yet:) but she seems to run fine with the muffs:).
Still researching what prop might be the best for good hole shot and cruising. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks

What is the prop that is on it now? That drive is probably a 1.5:1 ratio. If so, my 5.0 roller cam Ford, with the same ratio and in a 20ft boat, runs a 15 x 17. At that, I am slightly over propped as I can hit 5k rpm with a full load, at WOT.

Now my boat(that is my other boat, not my BeachCraft project) is bigger and may be a little heavier than yours. My motor probably has more poop than yours but yours has a higher hull speed than mine does.

I would guess that a 15 x 19 would suit you well, especially if you get the smart tabs. They will make a huge difference with a full load of players, especially when you are doing low speed sport activities and on any takeoff. With SmartTabs, with minimal load, that thing will absolutely leap straight up out of the water, with little or no bow rise.

But, I digress. I would run what you have and make a determination if you even need to make a change.

Re: 1984 beachcraft.

Thank you for your input. The props I currently have in my arsenal are as follows.
1. 15x17 3 blade aluminum..... currently on the boat
2. 14.5x19 3 " "
3. 14x20 4 blade aluminum
4. 14x20 4 Pirana composite

Props 1-3 are generic with no brand name

Re: 1984 beachcraft.

#'s one and two are what I would try out and determine their sufficiency. I think #2 gets close to where you want to be. I do not know for sure what the maximum RPM is for your chebby is, but I would assume it to be somewhere around 44-4600 rpm. I do not have any experience with 4 blades beyond the fact they can provide some stern lift that three blades will not.

I harken back to the SmartTabs. I have no axe to grind here beyond the fact that they made a completely new boat out of my 1975 Gulfstream. They will correct issues that make you think you need a different prop for. One of the things they eliminated was the low speed bow steer/wandering. They are a true plug and play item. Unlike adjustable tabs there is no fiddling with them once you are underway and they are a fraction of the price.

Re: 1984 beachcraft.

Sounds like I better order up some SmartTabs. Hopefully I will get the boat in the water this week. Will try the 14.5x19 first and report back how it goes. Wish me luck!

Thanks to all
Steve
