I have an 84 140 hp evinrude and it had been sitting for about 6 months so when I got it back I got it running brought it out with no problems. I was talking to a mechanic and he told me that since I hadn't changed any of the fluids lubes whatever else that it would be a good idea so I filled the tilt trim with the oil and now it won't work at all. The T/T motor will run but it won't move. I manually lifted it and lowered it with no luck. It just won't go up or down. It just sits there. So what am I supposed to do. I tried lossening the relief valve with no luck. Please help.. Thanks....

First loosen the relief screw on the side and lift the motor by hand. When it is at the tilt position, lock it in and fill with dextron 11 trand fluid.after filling close relief screw and it should work. you should be sure to lube all hinge points first and drip some fluid on the silver lift arm.Good luck!!!Charlie

I do believe charlie hit the proverbial nail on the head Taz. Ya' got her air bound. Lifting the engine by hand sucks up the fluid into the cylinders. Ya' may have to do it a couple times. Once you have it to where its going up and down, cycle it up and down 3-5 times with the reservoir fill plug lose. This lets the air vent out. Check the level with the engine tilted all the way up. Correct level is with the fluid at the bottom of the fill hole. Book says this should be done with the reservoir upright but shoot I ain't found hardly one yet ya could get upright unless the engine was off the boat or the boat was pointed down hill.

Good Luck!

I tried exactly what you said other than lifting lowering 5 times. I don't think my back can take more of that abuse. That is one heavy engine. any other ideas boys..

Shoot Taz....just reread what I wrote and I should clarify a little.

After manually lifting the engine by hand, close the manual release and try to run it with the motor. If it moves up and stops, put more fluid in and run it down and up again. If it worked before draining the fluid all out, I believe it's just air bound and being stubborn.

Hope I got it right this time. :)

I did exactly what you listed on here but only one side is working. The side opposite the location where you fill it and the tilt is not working at all. Only one trim is working....
