1984 harris flotebote the heritage 28 foot pontoon with what i believe is a 3.0 OMC motor (GM)?? and an Evinrude stern-drive

stern drive has the number 380996 on it not sure what it means but its also in the pics

also the mototr has a hole towards the rear, inspection plate, acc. hole, ??? in pics as well

also from what ive read i also have a clutch pack?? for my trim but it wont go up or down, opened it up and it was "MUD" inside

included pics is what has me concerned, looking for parts, any help is appreciated, as always thanks in advanced, during and after....

any help here would be appreciated

Welcome aboard:

'84 OMC should be a mechanical shift Stringer ... but depending on what the "hole" is you're talking about (especially if it's on the back of the stern drive just under the top cap) you may have an older Stringer on there.

Clutch pack isn't for your trim, it's for your tilt. Trim on a Stringer (if you have it) will be on the front of the engine. If your tilt isn't working, I'd start by checking power to the solenoids and the tilt motor and then go from there.

On the engine itself somewhere (mine is on the starboard side rear motor mount) there will be a tag that should read something like: 302SPHRCRA, that number will identify what you've got (along with getting some pictures posted).

HOLY MOE !! that's like a 60s vintage electric shift Stringer. Did you happen to find that tag on the engine inside?

Not sure about the hole. I've gotta' look a little to see if I can find anything.

Well ... ya' gotcha' a Franken-motor. Looks like you do have the '84 3.0, but it's mated to a 60s vintage electric shift. Not sure on that hole though.

Another question.... I've seen a picture on Google of a water hose hooked into the side of the drive. I assume this is how I would test out of water since I have no where to put the muffs on. Any thoughts to help my concern? Thanks for your help!

You can find those inlet pivot caps online (eBay) ... Your other option is to install a flush kit on the water supply line going into the thermostat. Besides those two options, a Stringer has to be fully immersed in water to operate.

I saw that the other day, being fully submerged, after a Google inquiry brought me back to this site, thanks for the reply!!!!!

Is there a water impeller (circulator) in the drive??
