1984 Galaxy 19-1/2ft deck repair.

Ok, here we go the weather is trying to cooperate. I bought my very first boat last October and used it a couple of times before I had to winterize it (I live next to the great Lake Erie in Ohio and the winters suck). While playing around I notice the decking had a couple of soft spots. No big deal right? Just some good ole fashion itching, time, patients and money. I starting by throwing away the mangy old seats and ripping out the old faded carpet. The picture is what I found . Can anyone tell me what is causing this part of the deck to come up? Its on the port side where the side wall ties into the decking. Its goes from the engine compartment to back of the passenger seat. The wood is in pretty good shape. Should I try to repair or should I just go ahead and cut it out to replace it? Thanks.

Welcome to the world of crazy boat restorers. I'd love to help but I can't tell from the tiny pic what I'm looking at. If you're going to be documenting your project on here (and we hope you do), please create an account on a photo hosting site like photobucket.com and upload your pictures there. Then just link to them from here. Trying to attach photos right on iboats is a paint and the file size restrictions make it not worth the effort. Good luck with your project.

Ok. Thanks for the information. I tried all kind of different ways to post pics but as you know ran into all kind of size errors. I will create an account and post pics there. I found out why the decking was coming apart from the side wall though. It's because the it was not attached to the stringers and over the years of use it was just stating to warp and peel up. I will update pictures soon. Thanks again.

Alright I have done all the cutting, grinding and coating everything I needed to do. I have a question. What kind of fiberglass and epoxy should I use when covering the decking? Thanks.
