I have a newly rebuilt 1984 mercruiser 260. Yesterday water started shooting from a hole in the head. The hole is on port side just above the no. 1 cylinder. It's an existing tiny hole inside a larger threaded hole. Looks like I could screw a cap or connection over it. There is no water in oil and doesn't appear to be water in any of the cylinders although engine has major vibration but does start and run well at low rpms. Hoping someone has seen this situation.

I can't get a picture its on the head directly behind the exhaust manifold directly in between the spark plugs.

This is a picture of an engine online. Its the plug right in middle of picture in middle of exhaust ports and plugs. Hot water streaming out when engine running

Put a brass plug in it and go boating. Sounds like it is simply missing a plug - perhaps for a sender in various configurations. Rust and scale have probably built up and is now clear enough to leak.

Just saw the answers...thank you. It was a cast iron plug. What had me panicked was the misfiring but I now think that was from THE SPRAY OF WATER SOAKING THE 2 spark plugs and wires. It was very similar to when my last block cracked. Was certain I needed another engine. So far so good. Try tomorrow. Thanks again
