debo;

Here is the parts listing for a 1984 9.8. Look under CYLINDER BLOCK AND CRANKCASE, item 31. Please note, that is if it is a thermostat engine. You will see the two different covers, item 29, one for a thermostat engine and one for a non-thermostat engine.

Well if you are not sure it is an '84 why don't you just provide your s/n and make it easy for everybody?

Re: 1984 mercury 9.8 long shaft thermostat

That s/n comes up as a model:

1010224 MERCURY 1984 9.8

Parts listing:

Same as the one I sent you in the previous post. If as you say, "My engine doesn't have none of that stuff thats in that view", then you have a non-thermostat engine.

ok its a non thermostat motor does it have a pressure valve instead of a tstat what would make the water come out of the **** hole hot no luke warm,what else should I look at to solve this problem or is this just the way they run,because this will be my kicker motor incase the main motor goes down and it will be ran at full throttle to get me back to land,its on a 1984 wellcraft center console,any help?
