Hi!

I've started tearing-down the interior of my Searay Seville 19-Cuddy, the plan is to replace the "back-to-back" lounge seats with captains chairs on adjustable pedistals, and the doghouse engine cover/jump seats with a bench seat just forward of the engine.

I'm concerned about weather the lounge seat base is a structural part of the boat, will removing them somehow compromise the structural integrity of the floor or hull?

Here are 2 pictures of what these (starboard-side) bases look like - can I just sawzall them out, or will I need to reinforce the floor?

Any thoughts here would be appreciated - thanks in advance!!

Hello Panoguy and welcome to Iboats..

I dont think those bases are structural to the boat hull or deck..

But putting in some Peds might require some beefing up of the deck were they will be mounted.

There should be some kind of surface base installed to kinda spread the load out from the 6-8 screws/bolts that will hold the ped bases on.

What kind of ped bases are you looking at for your chairs ?

After tearing all the carpet out of my 85 Seville mine were not part of the floor in any way and I see no reason why you couldnt take the sawzaw and go to town on the bases ....But I would do some reinforcement when you add the new peds. !!

Thanks for the replies, folks!

It's my plan to reinforce the mounting by gluing/screwing together 2-3/4" plywood bases per pedestal, with Tee nuts placed to screw the pedestal into, and then screwing/glassing that base onto the floor. OK - well, I guess it's time to start sawing (this will prove to be nerve-wracking)!!

Thanks again!

Might be better to try and through bolt your bases to your ply ( countersink the nyloc nut + fender washer ).

I would hate to see one of them Tnuts gettin loose or tearing up your Glassed in ply ;) .

Good point Dr... Fender washer = more surface area - will-do. Thanks!!
