small block GM 305/350 family 220-260hp, fresh water cooled, with the 2 barrel carb I`d say 220hp
SEI 106 outdrive
Still have not found the Engine Ser#

I got her fired up...seems to run smooth...However, lots of black smoke coming out the tail pipe/propeller? Could it be from sitting a few months?

Also, I put the ear muffs on and water comes out around the lower part of the outdrive. This is my first inboard/outboard...so I am just wondering if this correct as I see other areas/holes with flippers and assumed thats were the water would exit.

Thanks for any help

Is the choke working?

Not sure what you mean by flippers?

Flappers..lol...They are on the outside of the stern and keep water from going back up and into the engine/or. But, is it normal for water to run through and out the lower part of the outdrive?

Choke, seems to be working..it closed when it first starts up then opend up part way...if I gave her gas opens up more. ??

When the engine warms up, the choke should be fully open, if not, it cuts down on the air, and you get more gas (aka black smoke)

Could you post a picture of these flappers? Merc (nor SEI) use external flappers.

Sounds like through hull exhaust......? Selectable through hull, through prop...?

OK...Yes the Exhaust comes out the prop.....My question is.....(the boat is on its trailer) When I have the engine running and the water ears over the outdrive and water running the water exits out of the lower part of the outdrive near the stern/boat...is this the way it is/normal?
