New water pump put on a few months ago, ran fine every weekend until today. Just going across lake and alarm gors off and motor starts running rough..... stopped, the alarm goes on for about 45 seconds, then it runs great agian for a few minutes then did the same thing all over again. Oil and water flow are fine.?

do you have the gauges with visual indicators for oil and temp?
that engine will go into speed reduction if the engine oil tank gets low due to a slow transfer caused by a partially clogged remote oil tank filter and by a tamp switch closing or failing.

Re: 1984 yamaha 115 alarm?

I have no temp or oil gauge. The oil system was removed before I got the boat. Now I just pour oil in the gas tank. I have had this boat for a year or so. This is the first problem I have had. I did notice two of my plug wires were loose, almost removed. But I pushed them on today and boat did the same thing. The water is kinda warm coming out of the motor but a far cry from hot?

Thank you Sir. I put a new transducer on the boat about the time this started. Almost in center of the bottom of transom. Is it possible the transducer is slpitting the water and not letting my foot get proper water flow?

I see now.......... The motor is kinda old but local tech. checked and said was a good motor (Strickland Outboard, Summerville, Ga) Not a lot of rigging, auto oil syster just been removed

Re: 1984 yamaha 115 alarm?

trust me its jury rigged, you just dont know.
get a copy of the 02 marine tech guide and it will explain the alarm system and when and how it works.
I dont think you nor your so called mechanic understand what is going on yet the motor is trying to protect itself from ignorance.

yes it is possible the transducer is disrupting water flow.
maybe its just me but I still see no model number in your thread
