I have found 2 bowls cracked around where the needle valve seat screws in. I think the best thing is to replace all 4. I don't know if I cracked them or if they were already cracked and I didn't see the hairlines when I rebuilt them because of lighting conditions.

Questions is, are there any places prone to cracking on the upper body of the carb? I looked them over but I didn't see any. I need to go over them really good again. I'm hoping those aren't cracked because they're really expensive.

Also, I turned up a thread where someone had to replace the bowls on another hp and they said the bowls are now aluminum and thread pitches aren't the same as the plastics. Sound right?

there are possibilities anywhere there is a screw and the pickup tube can become loose, especially if someone soaked the carbs in a carb solution, the plastic carbs should not be soaked in the strong carb solution

Maybe for the crossflow engine but never seen a aluminum bowl on a plastic body carb. There are plenty of used bowl out there so shouldnt be to hard to find replacements..

Re: 1985 120hp cracked bowls

Thanks Faztbullet,

I did soak the carbs for only 30 minutes a piece. I don't see cracks anywhere in the uppers, so I think they're fine. I went ahead and ordered 4 new bowl chambers just to be safe. I'll make sure the hardware is screwed in appropriately to not cause cracking.

I had another thread about having issues getting the outboard to idle. Someone pointed me in the direction of the manual choke (red) lever. I believe this might be the culprit along with cracked bowls. I'll pickup where I left off after I get the new bowls on.

Thanks.
