Re: 1985 150hp XR2 no remote oil tank

The factory developed the throttle controlled oiling system to reduce the likelyhood of spark plug fouling from excessive oil accumulation during long periods of idling, thus increasing reliablity AT IDLE.

The most common problem with the system is the crankgear that turns the oil metering pump is made of plastic and under heavy loads such as extended WOT and/or the more extreme RPM's that many speedsters build their engines for, well, the plastic gear cannot last long and fails.

It is because of this 'possibility' of failure that many have decided to remove the oiling system and pre-mix there fuel.

Anyone...what are the reasons someone might remove the remote tank on this system?
It kind of comes down to what one thinks is more likely to occur to cause engine damage. An oil injection system failure or an operator error, such as forgetting to put oil in the gas after fill up or not making sure the oil is properly mixed up so that raw fuel does not get to the cylinders. For me, operator error is more likely to occur, so I keep the oil injection system on my motor.
