Hello forum. I have an 85 15hp john. I just brought it to the repair shop to have them check out the motor. They said the water pump needs to be replaced. I fired up the motor for just a min to see if the water would flow and nope it wont. Is this an easy task? Any pointers or how toos from anybody? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Its fairly easy take off the 4 bolts and 1 nut above the skeg take off the water inlet screens there should be 2 nuts yoiu can loosen for the shift rod, slide the lower end down about 2in look at the end of the shift rod and there is a plastic keeper on rod take that off and slide lower end out. Take bolts out of water pump and slide off watch the way the key was in there so you can put it back the right way. make sure the impella fins are facing clockwise.when you slide lower back up make sure the water tube slides into the grommet.

No it isn't hard to do, the first time might take you a while but if you are at all mechanically inclined and have basic tools you should be able to handle it.
Always good to know how to work on your own motor, especially this basic mantainence stuff.
Do you have a manual for this motor?
I wouldn't get into it until you do.
