I just bought a 1985-70hp johnson with a bad lower unit. I have a 1983-70 hp johnson so I want to use the 83 unit on the 85. The problem is the 85 has a vro pump. Any special way to hook this up? does it use a oil tank? Do I even need it on the 85?

The oil pump has nothing to do with the lower unit.

I understand the oil pump has nothing to do with the lower unit. What I was asking is does it use a seperate oil tank,as there is not one on the motor and do I even need this vro pump?

Yes, there is a seperate tank and lines.

You can use the engine without those. You need to block off the oil inlet (near fuel inlet) and unplug the oil pump electrically. Two wires from pump to harness.

Mix fuel and TCW-3 oil 50:1
