1985 90HP Inline 6 - Add a 2nd trim switch back by motor

Ok - So while i'm ironing out some issues with my motor I've decided that it is definitely time (if possible) to add a second trim switch back by the motor so when I'm putting the transom saver on I don't have to run back and forth to the controls etc to get the transom saver set correctly. I have a mounting spot that should stay dry and be reachable while putting the transom saver on. Does someone already make a kit to do this? If it's possible just to add one on I would love to see a wiring diagram as I could go the hardware store and get a switch and hopefully just tie into existing wiring. Thanks in advance for your info!

Merc make a kit for the stern drives, but the wiring harness for the trim pumps are the same. I've fitted MANY of them and everybody loves them... There are now 2 kits, one for the early style (round) plug and one for the later style (Parkard) plug.

Yours will have the early style plug. Kit number is 87-815200A1. It consists of the transom mounted switch and the harness adapters. It has the drilling template in the box... If you take your time and do the job REAL slow, it will take you 10 minutes.

At $55 I think it's easier just to buy the kit....

I picked up this one at West Marine last year. I too got tired of struggling to install the transom saver. Easy install, has rubber boots on the switches and has worked well so far.

You'll need to figure out the wiring
