I have a 1985 Evinrude 90. The 90 runs great at low to mid rpm's but at higher rpm's it dies. The primer bulb is soft when it dies. I believe it looses prime. Dont know if i need a new Vro pump or if i can rebuild the one i have or if that is even my problem???? Help! thanks, jeff

Squeeze the bulb and see if it keeps running well. If it does then you have an air leak or the pump is starting to fail.

Thanks for the welcome. This site is great! I had a friend squeeze the bulb lightly and the engine didnt die. Is the VRO rebuildable or do i have to buy a new one? Can the small sediment fuel filter leak enough air to cause the prime to fail? Thank you so much for the response. Jeff

You either have an air intrusion in the lines or the diaphram is failing. You can rebuild the fuel side of the pump and premix your gas or replace with a OMS pump and keep the oil tank mixing with the fuel or replace with a premix pump from a 1982 (ish) era motor.
Here is a link to when I converted to pre-mixing. It may be of some help to you.
